The Volta Region Women’s wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vowed to reduce the “World Bank” of the main opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rural bank status.
According to the Women’s Wing, the NPP would capture five seats to make history, and also to increase the presidential votes to an appreciable level to retain President Akufo-Addo and the party in power come the 2020 General Elections.
Based on these set goals, the Regional Women Wing held a regional delegates conference at Dzodze in the Ketu North Constituency to deliberate on methods and strategies they should adopt to meet their targets.
Madam Rejoice Afi Agyagbo, Regional Women Organiser, told the conference that her outfit had put measures in place to educate the people, particularly women, about the need to retain the NPP in power to enable the government to continue with its transformational agenda.
According to her, they would move from one community to the other to convince the electorate to vote for the party.
But, before this could be achieved, they need to be mobile, hence an appeal was launched at the conference to raise funds to buy a bus so that they could also contribute to the selling of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has come to relieve parents from the financial difficulties they were going through in the past. “This type of education for people in the Volta Region has been lacking over the years,” she said.
A role model for the NPP women’s wing in the Volta Region and a former Minister of State, Madam Elizabeth Ohene, asked the women’s wing of the party to be united and follow the planned educational campaign to help the people, particularly women, understand the ideology of the NPP.
Madam Ohene charged the women to embark on what she described as a ‘campaign of realities’ to ensure that women, who dominate the population, understand and support the work of the government.
According to her, the time had come for women in the party to make a difference by bringing people into the party, which would be the turning point in making a significant impact in the voting pattern in the region.
Madam Ohene, a renowned journalist, displayed her deep knowledge of politics to the admiration of the women, when she told them that the first rule in politics is to help those who brought the government into power, and urged the women to work hard to attract more people into the NPP for a resounding victory in 2020.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Makafui Woanya, said women play a vital role in development and politics, therefore, they should help in educating people about the goodness of the NPP. He commended the women for the way and manner the conference was organised.
Mr. Woanya noted that the NDC cannot compare itself to the NPP, because it was bereft of ideas when in power, as they failed to implement social intervention programmes.
The Regional Chairman said the party would embark on soul winning in the Volta Region to increase membership and votes. “Go out and teach people that the NPP would, at all times, teach people how to fish and not give them fish,” he added.
The Minister for Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, said there were indications that Nana Akufo-Addo would be retained the second time with 65 per cent of the total votes cast.
He (Dzamesi) would also annex the Ketu North seat, and urged the people to work hard towards victory in 2020.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, said indications are that the NPP was going to stay in power for a very long time, predicting 24 to 28 years.
