The Volta Regional New Patriotic Party Organiser, Korsi Bodja, has commenced a sanitation campaign aimed at encouraging Ghanaians to adopt hygienic lifestyles to warrant a healthy workforce for the country.
He stated that primarily, the citizenry can only benefit adequately from the promises and interventions being rolled out by the government if healthy, hence the need for the sensitisation drive on improved sanitation.
“You can only take advantage of the various interventions being rolled out by government if you are healthy”, he said.
Mr Bodja illustrated the sanitation campaign is also targeted at putting communities in the best position to attract investors interested in the 'one district, one factory' programme.
The sanitation campaign kick started at Aborme, a suburb of Kpetoe in the Agotime Ziope District, where residents engage in open defecation, contributing to frequent outbreak of communicable disease.
The exercise saw the clearing of site of a sanitary facility constructed in 2005 with funding from the Government of Ghana and European Union, but left to deteriorate for no apparent reason. The project formed part of the 5th Micro-Projects Programme.
Residents turned the immediate environs of the abandoned facility into an open defecation zone.
However, with support from the Agotime Ziope District Assembly, the sanitary facility would be rehabilitated and opened for use, with the hope of eliminating open defecation and reducing the outbreak of communicable diseases.
Mr Bodja expressed optimism a clean environment in kpetoe, would witness a booming kente industry and implored residents to adopt healthy lifestyles to add value to their kente product.
He affixed that the campaign strongly backed by the Volta NPP hierarchy would be replicated across the region.
