In line with the GhanaHomePage tradition of rewarding a distinguished Ghanaian over the years, we have launched our annual ‘Person of the Year’ Competition. In the last two weeks, visitors to the ghanaweb.com website were asked to nominate the Ghanaweb Person of the Year for 2003. The preliminary round of votes ended on 20 December and after receiving over 2,000 entries, the top six candidates have now entered a second round of voting, which will start from 22 to 31 December.
After collating the votes, your top six people over the last 12 months are:
- Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson (Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast)
- Dr. Kwame Addo Kuffour (Minister for Defence)
- Jerry John Rawlings (Ex-President)
- Major(rtd) Courage Quashiga (Minister for Agric)
- Otumfuo Osei Tutu (Asantehene)
- Prof Atta-Mills (NDC Prez Candidate)
Non-Ghanaians, Ghanaweb staff and previous winners, E.g. Kofi Annan (2000), The Ghanaian (2001), President Kufuor (2002) were not eligible.
Suprisingly, no female was in the top 50.
