The Paramount Chief of Likpe traditional area in the Volta Region, Okaple Soglo Alloh IV, has urged his chiefs and people to vote massively for the creation of Oti Region in the upcoming referendum.

He explained that the creation of the new region would stimulate the socio-economic development of the area as desired by all of them.

At a durbar held at Likpe Mate, he urged persons who were rumored to be against the move to rethink their stance and support the agenda, assuring them that enough consultations had been done to ensure the decision was in the collective interest.

Okaple Alloh noted that “the decision to advocate for the region was well thought through before my predecessor and father, signed the petition that was sent to the President months ago.

“The government should commit to its promise of making Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, Lolobi (SALL) a district and constituency after the referendum.

December 27, 2018 has been scheduled for a referendum that will see the creation or otherwise of six regions, two each from the Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions and the two from Western and Volta Regions.

A committee set up by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the matter recommended the creation of all six regions in its report submitted in July.

The Electoral Commission is preparing feverishly for the creation of six additional regions including the Oti Region from the Volta Region with Western North from the Western Region, Ahafo Region and Bono East from the Brong-Ahafo Region and the Savannah Region and North East from the Northern Region.
