The Ntrubo Paramount Chief, Nana Tidibom Odamba II has strongly cautioned Ntrubos and settlers in the traditional area who intend to vote against the proposed split of the Volta Region.
According to him, any resident in the Ntrubo Traditional Area who votes against the creation of the Oti Region will be cursed by the gods of the land.
“We will all go out and vote ‘yes’ for Oti Region. We don’t want any ballot paper to be thumb-printed ‘no’. Anybody who votes ‘no’ will be cursed by our forefathers and gods. So to avoid being cursed just vote yes”, he stressed when speaking at a mini rally in Breweniase in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Volta Region.
Nana Tidibom bemoaned the underdeveloped state of the northern territory of the Volta Region arguing the northern dwellers were not given a fair share of development projects during the over 60 union with the southerners.
“We want development, we want to progress, we want to eliminate poverty in our area. We have been asking for a new region for over 40 years. The Akufo-Addo government has considered our current petition and is on the verge of giving us a region.”
“It now depends on us to exhibit to the whole Ghana that indeed we want the new region to be created by massively voting in favor of the Oti Region in the referendum“, he added.
He reiterated a call on Christians leaders in the Nkwanta South Municipality to schedule their annual Christmas conventions to end before December 27, to give residents the opportunity to participate in the new regions referendum.
He also educated residents on the voting process and urged those on the voters’ registers in the traditional area but are resident elsewhere to return home and participate in the referendum.
“When you are given the ballot paper, make sure you thumbprint beside the color yellow. By so doing you are have voted yes for the proposed Oti Region”, he said.
