Vote out NDC - PPP urges people in the Western Region

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom

The flagbearer of the Progressive Peoples' Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom is asking the people of the Western Region to show their disappointment and frustrations as a region on December 7, 2016 by voting against the ruling National Democratic Congress( NDC).

The PPP flagbearer said this at a press conference in Takoradi after a tour of some constituencies of the party in the region. He lamented about how the western region is left with only broken, unfulfilled promises by those who are voted into power.

"..When people want power they all come to the Western Region making all sorts of promises; but when they get into power they pay them back with poverty...” Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom added.

He said particularly the ruling NDC and President Mahama do not have the moral right to ask for another 4 years since he has been directly or indirectly in power for the past 8years.

He said despite the abundance of human and material resources, politicians have taken the region for granted.

He wondered why despite a promise to give the region 10% of the oil proceeds during the run up to the 2008 general election by the then running mate of the late President Mills; John Mahama; now that he is President he is refusing to fulfill the promise he made to the region.

He said a PPP government believes a better and fair share of any natural resources must benefit the residents in the region of the resource. He wondered why the region has barely nothing to show in terms of infrastructural development after the oil and gas find as the benefits are being mortgaged to the Chinese as a result of a loan.

He said cities like Bogoso, Tarkwa, Prestea are nowhere comparable to Johannesburg where resource is as well and said a PPP government will not deny the region such deserved benefits.

He said the supposed development of the railway now by the NDC is too little, too small and a vote for a PPP government in power will see them bringing in ultra-modern railway system that is faster and efficient.

He said a vote for the ruling NDC and president Mahama is a wasted vote. He said further the PPP is not prepared to give up anybody within the party who perpetrates any act of indiscipline adding the NPP nor will the NDC own up to do same.

He decried the use of brute force and violence in our body politic and called on President John Mahama to speak out against it.
