Voting for Mahama is a vote against nursing allowances – Okoe Boye

Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ledzokuku and the current Minister of Health, has warned nursing students that voting for John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will result in the cancellation of nursing training allowances, as it did during Mahama’s previous term.

Dr. Okoe Boye, speaking during Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour to the Lekma Nursing Training College emphasised the risks to the future of nursing education if the NDC is elected.“The only candidate who can assure you that even if the ‘allawa’ delays, it will come, is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.

Dr. Okoe Boye reminded students of the NDC’s earlier stance on posting nurses, which he claimed created uncertainty for their careers. “When the other man was there, he said posting is not easy, but under this NPP government, more than 50,000 nurses have been given clearance,” he added.

Dr. Okoe Boye issued a further concern over the possibility of a return to budget cuts under a Mahama-led government, saying, “The other man said he wants to reset Ghana. Do you have your phones here? When you reset, would you still have anything on your phone? Everything goes back to zero. Reset means allawa will be cancelled.”

On the other hand, he emphasised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership as a means of advancement. “Dr. Bawumia is for an upgrade. The other man is for a reset. Which one are we choosing, reset or upgrade?” he questioned.

He urged the nursing students to spread his message broadly as well as pay attention to it.“My beautiful and handsome student nurses, please don’t only swallow the good news, share it with siblings that the only man who is here to solve our problem is Dr. Bawumia,” Dr. Okoe Boye stated.
