Sekondi, Aug.18, GNA - The Western Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Wednesday said it would embark on a strike action if its members were not placed on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) by the end of August. This was contained in a statement read at a press conference by the Regional Chairman of the Association, Mr. Daniel Quayson, after an emergency meeting in Sekondi.
The meeting deliberated on the undue delay in the migration of members of CLOGSAG onto the SSSS. Meanwhile, members of the Association in the Region are to wear red bands and hoist flags at their offices immediately, he said. Mr. Quayson said any negotiation on the SSSS should take retrospective effect from January 1, 2010. He said, 93The Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has been a miserable failure and should be removed for incompetence with immediate effect".
Mr. Quayson said members of the Association cannot understand why after a year, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission had not been able to conclude negotiations with the leadership of the Association. He said the Commission continues to heighten tension by announcing specific dates for migrating CLOGSAG and others onto the SSSS but had so far failed to fulfill such promises. "What added injury to our sore was the announcement of a 20 per cent salary increase for public servants who are already on the SSSS leaving CLOGSAG members more impoverished", Mr. Quayson said. He called on members of the Association to be steadfast and to continue to have confidence in the leadership. 18 Aug. 11
