Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - The result of the November-December Senior Secondary School (SSS) Examinations conducted by West African Examination Council (WAEC) for Private Candidates would be released by February 20.
Mrs Victoria Kwawukume, Deputy Registrar and Head of the SSSCE Private Candidates (PC) Department of WAEC, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday that the date fixed for the PC results to be released could not be changed.
"WAEC has a programme that it follows, which is not tied with admissions to the various universities. We, therefore, cannot interfere with our programmes of activities because we have programmed three months for marking and processing the exams papers before the results are out."
She said marking and processing of such papers entailed a lot of work and most times staff of WAEC had to do overtime at weekends and holidays to ensure that results were released on schedule. Consequently, private candidates, who wish to use their results to enter into the University of Ghana, Legon, for the 2006/2007 academic year may not be able to do so since the deadline for the submission of application forms is January 31. However, such candidates could apply for admission into the University of Cape Coast, which has advertised that application forms for all undergraduates should be submitted not later than February 28. Submission date for mature candidates into the same University is, however, pegged on January 6.
