New Edubiase(Ash), June 27, - The Adansi East District in Ashanti is to be supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the implementation of an accelerated control of malaria. Dr Seth Mawuse Ayi, District Director of Health Services who announced this during the district assembly meeting at New Edubiase on Thursday, said the programme would help reduce deaths caused by the disease. The accelerated control programme would also assist in reducing the incidence of severe and complicated cases of Malaria. Dr Ayi said "Malaria is so important to us because it is endemic in this part of the world. We live in an environment which is suitable for the breeding of mosquitoes coupled with poor environmental sanitation and lack of knowledge on the prevention of th He said the programme is geared towards sensitizing health workers and community members to diagnose and properly treat people with simple Malaria and also refer severe cases to the appropriate Dr Ayi said this would reduce the number of patients who die from Malaria and its associated complications He observed that, to ensure its success, community based health workers, chemical sellers, traditional birth attendants (TBA's) and teachers would be trained in the diagnosis and proper managem Dr Ayi appealed to the assembly members to organize their communities to initiate programmes to control the disease.
