WVI Ghana presents canopies to Catholic charity

Koforidua, July 10, GNA - The World Vision International (WVI) Ghana, has presented four canopies worth 14.3 million cedis to Matthew Chapter 25, a Catholic charity organization caring for People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) at Koforidua on Friday.

The Programme Manager of WVI in-charge of the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District, Mr Reginald Darko, speaking at the presentation noted that the organization recently trained 70 women, including 20 PLWHAs in batik-tie-and-dye and soap making at Coaltar.

He said Hope for African Children International (HACI), a child's right advocacy group, funded the training, which cost about 150 million cedis.

After the five-week training, they were presented with a quantity of inputs each to go into production.

Mr Darko explained that the canopies were meant to provide shelter for seven of the PLWHA trainees practicing their trade at the Matthew Chapter 25 House.

He said WVI had decided to provide the PLWHAs with nutritious food supplements and bear their medical bills as its contribution to promote their life span.

The Director of Matthew Chapter 25, Father Alex Bobby Benson, commended WVI for the gesture and urged other benevolent organizations and individuals would emulate the example to help care for PLWHAs. 10 Jul 04
