Wa, Nov. 4, GNA - Mr. Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister, has cautioned supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be wary of detractors who are working round the clock to propagate lies and half-truths to divide their ranks.
He said they must remain united as a family, show love to each other and support the leadership of the party to win the 2012 general election to provide the country with its development needs. Mr. Khalid was addressing Wa Central Constituency Delegates' Conference of the NDC to elect new executives to manage the affairs of the party for the next four years.
He said time had come for everybody in the NDC especially the new executives that would be elected into office to view their positions as a challenge, which called for extra commitment to the course of the party. "Let us work harder to sustain the party to be alive to its responsibilities to win the confidence of the people before 2012 elections," Mr. Khalid said.
Mr. Kale Cezar, Deputy Regional Minister, thanked the foot soldiers of the party for the good work they did to win the Wa Central seat for the NDC. He said the Wa Central Constituency was a strategic one that held the trump card for the NDC to win more seats in the region and urged the local executives not to be complacent.
Mr. Cezar said former President Rawlings call on President John Atta Mills to move on a fast pace in fixing the economy and providing justice to the people should not be misconstrued that he was interfering in the running of the government.
Rather, that should be seen as a wake up call for the NDC to provide the basic needs of the people on time to facilitate the renewal of the party's mandate.
Mr. Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament for Wa Central urged Ghanaians not to be discouraged about government's delay in providing jobs. He announced that government would establish training centres throughout the country where the youth would be trained to repair mobile phone, while efforts were being made to enable them to acquire employable skills.
He said government would embark on a massive rural electrification programme as well as the provision of health facilities and good roads to the people.
Mr. Pelpuo announced that government had secured assistance to undertake the Wa Water Expansion Project next year and also establish a regional hospital in the regional capital. Mr. Duogu Yakubu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the peace and unity prevailing among the supporters and executives of the NDC in the Municipality should be encouraged.
He urged supporters of the party to help to explain government's policies and programmes to the people to appreciate the efforts and measures that are put in place to salvage the economy. The former Wa Central Constituency Secretary, Mr. Khalid A. Rahman, called for the provision of an office accommodation and equipment for the constituency.
Mr. Rahman also appealed to affiliated organisations of the NDC to join the party structures to ensure proper control of their activities. All the 18 former executives of the constituency were retained by popular acclamation.
The 18- member executives have Alhaji Seidu Jamatutu as Chairman, Mr. Salia Adam first Vice Chairman and Mr. Iddrisu Adam second Vice Chairman. Mr. Khalid Abdul-Rahman is the Constituency Secretary, Mr. Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, Deputy Constituency Secretary and Alhaji Ankulu Sumaila Organiser.
The post of Deputy Organiser went to Professor Umar Bongo Yahaya, Ali Abdul-Raheem taken the second Deputy Organiser position and Abubakari A. Rahaman the Treasurer. The Deputy Treasurer is Naa Yussif Issahaku, Alhaji M. Kabore Propaganda Secretary, Osman Sunkare Deputy Propaganda Secretary and Alhaji Mumuni Mankama Youth Organiser. Mr. Salia Peter and Habib Iddrisu took the first Deputy and second Youth Organisers posts while the post of Women Organiser went to Hajia Hamida Nasiri.
