Wa East District Assembly exceeds revenue targets

The Wa East District Assembly has so far collected 252,373.97 Ghana cedis as at June, representing 170.0 per cent of its projected annual estimate of 148,552.00 Ghana cedis.

Mr. Abdul-Karim Abdu, Wa East District Chief Executive, said this at the District Composite Budget Hearing on Sunday.

He said the achievement of the assembly had been made possible through the implementation of prudent strategies such as the building of a database of all ratable items district wide, increased supervision of revenue collectors to reduce possible corrupt practices and re-enforcement of the cattle rate task force.

He said other approaches the assembly used included the introduction of stickers for all categories of means of transport and the recruitment and training of 18 commission revenue collectors.

Mr. Abdu said based on the new approved fees and on available data on all ratable populations and items as well as other revenue sources such as transfers from national offices, non-governmental organisations and donors, the assembly had estimated to mobilise more revenue for the assembly in 2015.

He urged all relevant stakeholders involved in the process and implementation of the composite budget to be guided by the principles outlined by the various manuals and acts.

Mr Abdu appealed to stakeholders to be mindful of the peculiarities of the district and discuss those issues dispassionately devoid of individual interests as well as political leanings.

“Let us pool our efforts and energies to help serve our people more positively”, he said.
