Some young activists in Yeji in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region have founded the Wadudu and Colleagues Foundation Aid for Education (WACO), a non-profit organisation that aims to tackle educational challenges in the area.

Under the leadership of Abdul Wadudu Faridu, the organisation is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for all children of school-going age by ensuring they have access to quality education and a solid foundation for lifelong learning and personal development through a range of initiatives,
including resource support, educational programs, and community partnerships.

Speaking at the organisation's launch on Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Executive Director of WACO, James Azupero, stated, "Our mission at WACO is to ensure that every child has access to uninterrupted education. We are committed to providing basic necessities, supporting the education of girls, and assisting students with disabilities. Through these efforts, we aim to create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive and reach their full potential."

He stressed that the initiative, which aligns with global efforts to improve education, underscores WACO's commitment to fostering quality education to ensure that the Pru East District keeps pace with international standards in educational access and quality.

"This initiative is in line with global efforts to enhance education, and WACO is fully committed to making quality education accessible to all to ensure that our community benefits from the same educational standards and opportunities seen around the world", he added.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru East, Haruna Mohammed, emphasised the crucial role of collaboration between the Assembly and organisations like WACO in advancing educational opportunities by highlighting that such partnerships are essential to building a brighter future for children, as they allow for pooling of resources, knowledge sharing, and coordinated efforts to address educational challenges.

We, as an Assembly, are delighted because, through collaboration, we have the power to elevate education to the standard we envision for our community. By working together with partners, we can address longstanding challenges, introduce impactful programs, and provide the resources needed to empower our children".

The Gyasehene, Siahene Mpre Kutuigyi II, who chaired the occasion, commended the foundation for the achievements chalked so far and promised to release land for the building of an office complex upon an official request.

The foundation used the opportunity to donate 20 free uniforms and 300 exercise books to needy students.

The programme was graced by the District Chief Executive for Pru East, Mohammed Haruna, the District Director of Education, Sylvester Tabiasi-Naa, the Gyaasehene of the Yeji Traditional Council, Siahene Mpre Kukuigyi II, the NCCE District Director, some parliamentary candidates, selected private and public schools and members of the general public.
