The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has planned to verbally attack the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa, and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof Emmanuel Asante, as part of their strategy heading into the 2020 general election.
A leaked tape purported to be the voice of NDC national chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo in a meeting with party communicators said: “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”
“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo also gave his blessings for the party communicators to insult Prof Asante.
“For the first time, I’ll endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” he said.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was elected the National Chairman of the NDC when he beat Mr Dan Abodakpi, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, Ms Betty Mould Iddrisu and Mr Danny Annang in November 2018.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo has previously served as national organiser, vice chairman and director of elections for the NDC.
During the late President J.E.A. Mills' presidency, 2009 - 2012, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo first served as Eastern Regional Minister and later Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
He supervised election 2016 for the NDC as its director of elections.
