Warning To University Of Ghana Accra City Campus Authorities

We are a group of concerned students of the University of Ghana-Accra City Campus and wish to register our outmost disgust about the administration of the Principal, Professor J.F Wiredu.

We are very much concerned about the way he is handling issues like (i). Getting lecturers for the Accra City Campus,(ii). Poor remuneration for the lecturers (iii). Putting up notices asking students to change courses without adequately briefing them on why such sudden changes and (iv). Late release of First Semester results.

Meanwhile some lecturers have reliably informed students that they submitted their results to the authorities at the University of Ghana ,Accra City Campus about a month ago. This is causing anxiety among students, especially when notice has been put up asking those who have been referred, to register their referred courses as part of their workload for the second semester.

For example a Second semester course like Research Methods in Sociology is now being offered in the first semester and we think delay in releasing the result of such course will put students in a disadvantage position as they would not have the opportunity to register it in case any of them is referred in it.

We are by this correspondence calling on the Professor Wiredu-led Administration to publish without delay the results so far received from the lecturers so as to maintain peace on the campus.

We wish to state that if by Wednesday, 2nd September 2004 the results are not published, we would demonstrate and demand the removal of Professor J F Wiredu as Principal of the University of Ghana,Accra City Campus.

NB: We wish to acknowledge the fact that the University of Ghana,Accra City Campus SRC Executive have been doing their possible best to get the issues resolved amicably through dialogue with the authorities.

This notice is to express our solidarity with the SRC Executive led by the indefatigable President, Cynthia Opoku-Manu (Mrs.)

Thank you for granting us a space in your news medium and being part of the struggle to ensuring peace and sanity on the University of Ghana,Accra City Campus.
