Wassa West District Assembly acquires a Caterpillar

Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 22, GNA - The Wassa West District Assembly has acquired a brand new caterpillar at a cost of 2.6 billion cedis from Tractor and Equipment, Ghana.

A down payment of 1.4 billion cedis has been made leaving 1.2 billion cedis, which will be paid in three installments over a period of six months.

Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive said these when the keys of the equipment were handed over to him by Mr Bob Aggrey, Service Supervisor, Tractor and Equipment at a ceremony at Tarkwa on Tuesday.

He said the most significant developmental challenges facing the district were the maintenance of feeder roads and environmental sanitation.

Mr Ayensu said owing to abundant rainfall in the district, gullies often developed on the graveled feeder roads thereby rendering them virtually impassable.

Again, he said a critical study of the assembly's budget indicated that a large chunk of the money was allocated to road maintenance, therefore the assembly found it prudent to acquire the caterpillar to constantly put the roads in shape.

Mr Ayensu said with the acquisition of the machine the road maintenance budget allocation would be reduced and would also bring some income because the machine would be hired to individuals and districts that would need it.
