There is reported grave insecurity in Tuobodom in the Bono East Region following a renewed clash between two factions in a heated chieftaincy dispute.
According to reports, the recent clashes ignited following the alleged murder of a young man by unknown assailants.
His family launched a retaliatory attack on the opposing faction upon finding his body dumped in a bush, causing a string of spontaneous assaults in the last three days.
A video sighted by GhanaWeb shows a heavy exchange of gunfire between the feuding factions.
A resident of the town, speaking to Onua FM’s Nana Yaa Brefo, reported that one person had been shot dead as a result of the exchange of gunfire.
According to him, the deceased, an Ivorian tanker driver, was hit by a stray bullet while driving through the Tuobodom township amidst the heavy exchange of gunfire.
One of the videos from the clash shows the deceased driver being carried by some residents after he was shot.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Tuobodom township has become a ghost town as residents flee to nearby towns for safety.
