The nation’s security apparatus was heavily criticised by a section of the public for allowing Burkina Faso's military Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to approach President John Dramani Mahama with a gun on him during the presidential inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
President Traoré went to the high table for the event, where the four most powerful people in Ghana: the president, the vice president, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice - were seated, with a pistol on him, which sparked the criticism of the security authority in the country.
But that encounter is not the end of the meeting of the two leaders, after new visuals of a meeting between President Mahama and President Traoré after the inauguration has emerged.
The video of the meeting showed President Mahama receiving President Traoré in his office.
After exchanging pleasantries, the men sat down and could be seen having a conversation.
After the deliberation in the office, they walked outside to engage with the media, where President Traoré's sidearm that sparked criticism could still be seen on him.
Both presidents expressed a willingness to work to strengthen bilateral cooperation and chart paths that would lead to the development of their countries.
Mahama thanked Traoré for gracing his inauguration and pledged to help restore peace in Burkina Faso.
