Chaos erupted at the Ablekuma West constituency when EC officials attempted to use a taxi to transport ballot papers to the collation center. Residents and voters protested as the counted papers were packed into the taxi by EC officials, with many opposing the idea.
The presiding officer at the polling station explained that the taxi was the only affordable option after voters had earlier protested against the use of a private vehicle. To ensure the papers were transported safely, party agents and the police accompanied the taxi.
A resident explained why they rejected the private car initially proposed by the EC officials, expressing concerns about the possibility of foul play.
“They said they didn’t have cars, so we helped them hire a taxi to ensure safety. We initially accepted the private car, but the way they acted made us suspicious. We want to be vigilant this time, which is why we prefer the taxi. If anything happens, we can trace it with the registration number,” she said.
The Ablekuma West constituency is being contested by the incumbent, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who was re-elected during the NPP’s parliamentary primaries in 2024, and the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rev. Kweku Addo.
