Popular radio personality, Auntie Naa, has captured the hearts of many Ghanaians by raising over GH¢500,000 for a nurse who suffered a severe head injury in an accident.
The nurse, Deborah Nkrumah, who works at Dominase SDA Hospital, sustained the injury two years ago while on her way to work.
She hit her head on a commercial vehicle, resulting in a major skull injury.
Gladys Abeka, the nurse's mother, shared their story on the August 13, 2024, edition of the Oyerepa Afutuo programme.
She recounted, "My daughter is a nurse at Dominase SDA Hospital. Two years ago, on her way to work, she hit her head on a commercial vehicle, causing her skull to swell. Despite our efforts, the condition has not improved."
She continued, "Her skull keeps swelling, and the doctors say nothing can be done about it here in Ghana. She needs to be transported to India for treatment, but the cost is beyond our means. That's why I came here for your support," she said in Twi.
The cost of the surgery in India was $25,000, equivalent to GH¢4 billion.
Moved by the nurse's plight, Auntie Naa rallied for support during the programme.
Within a twinkle of an eye, her appeal struck a chord with listeners, who responded generously and donated to Deborah.
