Akropong, a town in the Akuapem North Constituency of the Eastern Region, came to a standstill on Saturday, August 3, 2024, as a mammoth crowd of Ghanaians joined the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to stage the Ofie Mega Walk.
Hundreds of supporters and sympathizers of the NPP and Dr. Bawumia participated in the walk, which was aimed at boosting morale in the camp of the NPP and bringing some fire to the party’s base.
Addressing the teeming crowd of NPP supporters, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia promised to create more jobs and ensure the success of the Ghanaian youth.
He promised to equip the Ghanaian youth with digital skills that will culminate in the creation of over one million jobs.
“I want the youth to be employed; jobs will be my main focus. I’ll train about one million youth in digital skills; that’s where the job opportunities are. Even if you haven’t been to the university, as long as you can read and write, we’ll train you in digital skills so that you can work in other countries while in Ghana,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also aimed a dig at John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He urged supporters to vote for him, asserting that Ghana needs a leader with new ideas, integrity, and best practices to develop the nation.
“From the customs office, we’ll introduce the flat rate of duty and digit-ability to prevent corruption at the port for the development of the country. We are bringing more initiatives on board as we launch our manifesto in a few weeks to come. Because of digitalization, passport application is going to be a thing of the past.
“If you have your card, you don’t have to apply and fill out a form for a passport. We have all your details, so you’ll just pay the fee, and then we print your passport for you. This initiative will help the country to move into digitalization.”
“Ghana is going into the digitalization age, not the ‘akonfem’ age. Vote for me so that we can also learn from the Europeans to develop our nation. We are bringing new policies. Do you think their flagbearer can be a president for just four years? He’s also seeking a honeymoon, meaning he won’t do anything.
“However, I want to be president for eight years, meaning I’ll come back to make accountability after my first term. He [Mahama] won’t come back to make accountability. Ghana needs a new president with new ideas and integrity.”
Among the NPP bigwigs who joined Dr. Bawumia for the walk were Asamoah Gyan and Sammi Awuku.
