The head office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) was busy on Monday, September 9, 2024, as the commission started receiving nominations of the 39 aspirants who have picked up nomination forms to contest in the 2024 presidential election.

The first day of the nomination filing, which is expected to end on Friday, September 13, 2024, saw 8 aspirants or their representatives, accompanied by their supporters, trooping in to file their nominations for the 2024 presidential election.

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was one of the 8 presidential hopefuls to file their nomination on Monday.

He was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as well as the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim.

The chairman of the largest opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also filed the nomination of the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama on Monday.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah was joined by the party’s General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, and Director for Elections and IT, Dr Omane Boamah, as well as other bigwigs.

The other aspirants who filed their nominations on Monday included the leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar); the leader of the Liberty Party of Ghana (LGP), Kofi Akpaloo; and the leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga.

The remaining are Christian Kwabena Andrews, the leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM); independent presidential hopeful, Samuel Apea-Danquah; as well as George Twum-Barimah-Adu, another independent candidate.
