Water For People Of Osiem

The People of Osiem in the Abuakwa constituency of the Eastern Region are benefiting from a potable water facility at an estimated cost of about 400 million cedis. The project which would involve the extension of pipe born water to all parts of the town is to be started immediately is being funded by a Danish donor agency ? DANIDA

Citizens of the town residing in the United Kingdom are assisting the people back home to raise 80 million cedis as the matching fund demanded by a contract on the expansion project by DANIDA.

Currently due to the fast expansion of the town only about a third of the population is enjoying the exiting pipe-borne water supply. A situation described by the Vice chairman of the UK and Ireland branch of the Osiem Welfare Association, Mr. Prince Boateng as not encouraging.

In an interview with this reporter in London, he noted that Osiem is a historic town in the history of Akyem Abuakwa and is strategically located geographically and economically.

He observed that the town happens to be the opening to many important agricultural and marketing centres like Begoro, Bosuso and Hiamenkyene. Mr. Boateng said in view of this, and the many travellers who transit through Osiem, there is the need for the improvement of all basic social amenities to help avert any unforeseen outbreak of disease.

He said members of the association are eager to see the successful completion of the project and appealed to all other Osiem citizens elsewhere in the UK who are not members of the association to help make the laudable objective achievable.

Mr. Boateng re-iterated the need for all citizens of the town who are privilege to find themselves outside the country to help raise the standard of living of the people. He announced that the association is taking upon itself to raise funds to support other projects to give the town a face lift.

On welfare of members he expressed satisfaction efforts have been made to assist members who have problems in the search for job, accommodation and those with illness. He praised the members of their loyalty and commitment to the association, which he noted has yielded much fruits for the people back home.
