Accra, March 16, GNA - Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has ordered the arrest of Mr Emmanuel Mac Ayiku, producer of Akosombo Nsuo Filtered Water for an alleged illegal connection of water to his Company at North Labone.
Officials of the GWCL reported the issue to the Cantonments Police Station for investigations.
Speaking to newsmen, Mr Theophilus Collins, Commercial Officer of the Greater Accra East District of the Company, said Mr Ayiku had connected water illegally to his Company.
Mr Collins said a new line with a meter had also been connected to the Company without any authorization from the GWCL.
He said during investigations by the GWCL, Mr Ayiku said an official of GWCL connected the water supply but the official unfortunately died on January 18.
Mr Collins said the connection date on the meter on the new line was January 23 and could, therefore, not have been connected by the Dead man.
Mr Samuel Lamptey, Managing Director of the GWCL, said the GWCL would soon set up a taskforce to check on the operations of filtered water producers to monitor their sources of water supply. He said such illegal activities of some of the producers accounted for the shortage of water in many areas and appealed to Ghanaians to report any illegal connections to the GWCL.
