We Did Not Boycott Independence March -NPP

The Communications Directorate of the NPP has noted the claim that the NPP deliberately boycotted the 54th Independence March at the Independence Square.

This claim is not true. The NPP did not deliberately boycott the event at the square.

Twenty invitations were received by the Director of Administration, a few days to the event. Unfortunately the officer took ill (and he is still on his sick bed) therefore he could not supervise the selection of attendees and distribution of the invitations on time. It was simply a regrettable administrative lapse, and not a boycott. Indeed some NPP Members of Parliament attended the events in their regions and districts.

The Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo received his invitation on Friday 4th March, together with the invitation to the opening and closing events of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC). He had scheduled to travel that Friday to Nigeria on family business. He had also scheduled to attend a funeral in Kumasi on Sunday 6th March.

He duly informed the Executive Secretary of the CRC about his inability to attend the sessions due to the scheduled trip to Nigeria. He could not attend the March 6th event due to the scheduled funeral.

We also note this is not the first time a Flagbearer of a Political Party has not been able to attend the Independence celebrations due to other pressing engagements.
