The leadership of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Ashanti Region has bemoaned the poor treatment meted out to members by state institutions who invite them for events.

They noted that while politicians are always transported to event grounds on luxurious vehicles, they are forced to rely on rickety rented cars as means of transport to same events despite the risk of accidents and possible breakdowns of such vehicles.

GJA leadership has therefore attacked state protocol department as well as government officials riding in plush cars and doing the reverse for members of the inky fraternity calling on the government to treat members of Association covering state functions the same.

“Last two years some of us were following the [Regional] Minister and there was an accident and it was as a result of rickety vehicle that had been given to journalists”, Ashanti Regional branch of GJA, Kingsley Hope recounted

“I have been a witness myself and sometimes I even try to tell others let us boycott this program because the car given is a rickety one”, the chairman revealed.

“When you come and follow the President it is V8 so we all deserve V8”, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association, Kingsley Hope stated.

“Our relationship with KMA is just what I am trying to talk about and I hope that the Mayor being a media friendly will see to it that everything will be put to order”

Speaking to select journalists in the region at the end of year program organized by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), members of the association demanded better treatment from the government

The Regional GJA Chairman also appealed to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to resume work on the GJA building complex started by the previous administration and near completion.
