Former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo believes Ghana is poor because its citizens love to sleep.

According to him, every country that sleeps too much will struggle with poverty and that is what Ghana is struggling with.

He made this known when he spoke to Bola Ray in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM.

The former Chairman said “It is very simple, any nation that sleeps becomes a poor country. We are poor because we sleep. We work eight hours and we sleep. The whole night everybody is sleeping. When you sleep as a nation you become a poor country.

Asked if the NDC in power in 1992 and in 2008 didn’t know that Ghanaians are poor because they sleep he said “That is why society is progressive. So you move from one level to another level. The more your economy is growing, the more you’re expanding your economy. The more you have more power in excess to be able to generate more industries and employment.

You don’t have to sleep because look at the whole world America doesn’t sleep, UK doesn’t sleep, Germany doesn’t sleep, China doesn’t sleep, India doesn’t sleep. Africa we are sleeping that is why Africa is poor,” he said.
