Yvonne Nduom, wife of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) flag bearer, has described as vile propaganda claims that workers of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom’s conglomerate, Groupe Nduom, are poorly paid.
Several people have suggested that Dr. Nduom who owns over 60 different companies across Ghana does not remunerate his workers well leading to disaffection among some workers in his companies.
But speaking on Morning Starr Friday, Mrs. Nduom stated that even an uneducated sweeper within the conglomerate is paid above the minimum wage.
“Now you work in Ghana, they say that the minimum wage if you total it, it is GHS200. No one in Groupe Nduom, the lowest even the sweeper makes GHS200. And also, when we hire people, we look at the market rate. So, it is like if you are coming from somewhere...nobody joins Groupe Nduom that’s paid less than what the person was making before.
“So, you come in [and] let’s say you’re making GHC500.00 somewhere else, they won’t even pay you GHC500 because you were making GHC500.00 before. Always it’s more than that.
“So I don’t know where this is coming from. I think, this is a propaganda, a vile propaganda message that because Dr. Nduom says jobs, jobs, jobs, some party has to come up and then counter it. Why is it that we have people working for us for ten years, fifteen years and that people who work for the government are always on strike?”
Mrs. Nduom added that workers within Groupe Nduom have a special pension plan so they do not retire poor.
“Every single employee has a special pension plan that we do. You put in GHc5 a month we match it. You put in GHc10, we match it [with] GHc10. This is for your retirement. We never pay anybody below what they are worth,” she added.
