The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, says Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who has just been named as John Mahama’s running mate, is not a threat to the ruling party.

He said the NPP does not even need its four-time Vice Presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to debate her.

He said they are going to match her with the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his deputies, because of the sterling performance of the government in the sector.

“It is not the vice-presidential candidates that make the debate, it is the quality of policies,” he told journalists on Monday.

According to him, the nomination of Prof Opoku-Agyemang comes at no better time as the education sector is an area the NPP has done so well in so far.

He said Dr. Bawumia will concentrate on helping President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in continuing his good works for the country.

He said the choice of Mr. Mahama has shown that he is no threat to the NPP in the December 7 presidential elections.

“He has struggled to put together a campaign team, a manifesto and a running mate.”

Addressing journalists earlier, the Adentan Member of Parliament congratulated the former Education Minister and stated: “it is her performance during her period as a political appointee that we refer to”.

“Need we remind anyone that it was during the tenure of Naana Jane that training teachers’ allowances were scrapped.

“It was done without paying any heed to the many appeals to reconsider the decision. Indeed, it was one of the things she was proud to have done.”

The NPP Communications Director concluded: “We can only conclude that the choice of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman by Mr John Dramani Mahama is a clear indication that he does not take the Ghanaian electorate seriously.”
