The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says no matter how long it takes, the leadership of his party will contest the results of the just ended presidential elections in which he was defeated.
Addressing a charged crowd at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle a while ago, Nana Akufo-Addo said "we know we won this election" adding, "we are not going to retreat from the decision that we have taken."
The Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan declared President John Dramani Mahama as winner of the presidential elections on Sunday, announcing that the president-elect won 50.70 percent of the total valid votes cast as against Nana Akufo-Addo's 47.74 percent.
But the NPP says there was widespread rigging in the results announced by the EC. Leaders of the party met on Tuesday and decided to go to the Supreme Court to seek redress.
Speaking Twi, Ga, English and French, Nana Akufo-Addo told his teeming supporters that the party will ensure that justice is served in the matter to safeguard the sanctity of Ghana's democracy.
He however called on the supporters to eschew any violent tendencies as the legal means are used to ensure that the results are overturned.
"We don't want any trouble we don't want anything that will disturb the peace of this country… Ghanaians are watching and I am appealing to you, if indeed we are going gain their support and respect, we have to comport ourselves."
