We’ll boycott inauguration of T-Poly governing council – TUTAG

Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Several Unions and Alumni of the Tamale Technical University have threatened to boycott the inauguration of the Governing Council on Friday with a Polytechnic Status.

The Chairman of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana,Tamale Chapter,(TUTAG) Issahaku Salifu raised this concern at a news conference in the Northern regional capital.

He said the union is outraged by the inauguration of sister Technical Universities to the neglect of the Tamale Technical University.

According to him, the union is disappointed by the manner in which the Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is handling the inauguration of the governing Council of the Tamale Technical University.

The minister had indicated that the Tamale Technical University’s Council, together with Cape Coast Technical University (which was upgraded on Executive Order), Wa and Bolga Polytechnics respectively will be constituted as Polytechnic Councils until a Legislative Instrument (LI) is sent to Parliament for a period of 21 days.

But, the School thus advised the Education Minister to rescind its decision on any attempt to downgrade the Tamale Technical University to a Polytechnic status, or face their wrath.

“We shall boycott the inauguration of our University council as a Polytechnic Governing Council scheduled for this week. We are by this Press conference assuring the government that anything short of this will result in the situation that the government will find it difficult to manage. If Tamale Technical University Council is not inaugurated as a Technical University Council by September 15, 2017,the government should have itself to be blamed for any undesirable situation that will occur as a result of that,” he told a Press Conference in Tamale.
