Barely hours after the Economic Management Team, led by the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the National Democratic Congress has issued a statement, describing the presentation as misleading and distorted.
The statement signed by General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia noted that Dr. Bawumia’s lecture was full of “patent misstatements laced with populist rhetoric”, similar to his posturing in 2016.
According to him, the party has not only noted the contents of the presentation but will endeavor to challenge and expose the ‘distortions’ in it and ‘lay bare the true facts of the state of the Ghanaian economy” Thursday during a public lecture organized by the Coalition for Restoration.
The CFR’s event which will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday at the Mensvic Hotel has billed Guests including Former President John Dramani Mahama, Former Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrissu and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo to speak on the Economy of Ghana.
Themed: “Ghana’s rising fiscal risks, financial crunch and external vulnerabilities: A postmortem of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme and a preview of the economy without the International Monetary Fund (IMF)”, the lecture will focus on pertinent issues regarding Ghana’s economy on a broader scale.
His comments follow a Townhall Meeting organized by Government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) on the state of Ghana’s economy.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia touched on areas including the cedi depreciation, Import duties, exchange rates, macro-economic growth and the fundamentals of the economy.
He noted among other things that the economy is working for the good of Ghanaians and that government’s worst can be likened to the best performance of the NDC during their term in office.
