We’ll deal with armed robberies - Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has given the assurance that, the Government would continue to provide the necessary resources to the Ghana Police Service, to deal with the recent spate of armed robberies in the country.

He said Ghana was known for peace and stability, and would work diligently to maintain it.

He asked for the co-operation of the public to ensure peace and stability, saying; “Insha Allah, we shall be successful”.

“We pray that Allah will continue to give us peace and stability for the country to move forward,” he stated.

Vice President Bawumia gave the assurance when he joined thousands of Muslims at a thanksgiving service at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque in Accra, on Friday.

The thanksgiving service formed part of activities marking Ghana’s 61st independence anniversary celebration.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, the Minister of Inner City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Boniface Saddique and other government officials.

Vice President Bawumia said: “On behalf of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we thank Allah for bringing us so far.

“On March 6, 2018, it would be 61 years since Ghana gained independence, and we have to thank Allah for bringing us so far.

“If Ghana were to be a human being, we would be on pension by now, but we’re a country, and so for the country to move forward, we need peace and stability, and this is what we’re thanking God for,” he stated.

He said President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is touring some Western countries, including the United States of America and Germany, had been informed about the recent spate of armed robberies.

“I’m in constant contact with him regarding the recent spate of armed robberies, which is of concern to everybody and the President is also concerned”.

He said government had taken measures to curb the menace and asked for the co-operation of everybody to clamp down on the phenomenon.

Other activities marking the independence celebrations include; flag raising ceremony, inter-schools quiz and debate competition, clean-up exercise, thanksgiving service by Christians and Independence Day parade on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, to climax the celebrations at the Black Stars Square in Accra.

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be the special guest of honour for the occasion.
