We'll review NDC's petition and respond in coming days - EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed receiving the petition submitted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the end of their demonstration on Tuesday, 17' September. 2024.

According to the Commission, it will review the petition and provide its response in the coming days.

A statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC, Operations, Samuel Tettey, assured the general public that the process of producing the final register is in its early stages.

The Commission further expressed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.

"The Commission is mindful that the Voters Register is the bedrock of credible, fair, and transparent elections. We assure the NDC and all stakeholders of our avowed commitment to delivering a credible and robust final register ahead of the December 2024 elections. In the meantime, our doors remain open. We look forward to engaging the NDC on their concerns," the statement concluded.

On Tuesday, September 17, the NDC organized a nationwide protest, titled “Enough is Enough,” across all its regional offices.

The protest was sparked by alleged discrepancies in the provisional voter register, which the party claims to have uncovered after receiving it from the EC.

During the demonstration, the NDC submitted petitions to the EC’s headquarters in Accra and its regional offices, urging the commission to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register to ensure the credibility of the upcoming December 7 general elections.
