Lawyers for Editor of online news portal ModernGhana.com, say the brouhaha over the former’s medical report that seems to water down claims of torture is immaterial to the civil case being brought against the perpetrators.

Emmanuel Ajarfor’s Lawyers believe the account given so far by their client actually support their position that the accused persons carried out acts that abused his human rights and same would be determined in court.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, to respond to the medical reports issued, Lawyer Nii Kpakpo Addo said: “The pace of time between when he was arrested and released has a telling effect on the kinds of things on his body. And let’s not forget that forinstance it’ll be difficult to establish traces of he being tasered especially when it’s two day’s after.

For him:”It’s for the Attorney General to decide whether to prosecute or not; that is not in our power, but the civil aspect that violates his human rights and the perpetration of other torturous acts like assault, battery, and defamation would be taken up in court.”

The medical examination was carried out by doctors at the Police Hospital in Accra.

His colleague Emmanuel Britwum had dissociated himself from his claims of torture insisting that he was not harmed in any way neither did he witness torturing of his Editor.

Messrs Abugri and Britwum were arrested after National Security operatives closed in on them to investigate alleged cybercrime activity.

Mr Abugri has claimed on various media platforms that he was tortured while in the custody of the National Security, a claim that the National Security Secretariat has denied.

In its statement, the secretariat said it was “confident that the results of the medical examination will present the truth in the matter so as to inform the appropriate steps to be taken”.
