We need buses not Deputy Managing Director - STC staff

Workers of the State Transport Corporation (STC) have stated that it is unnecessary for the company to have a third Deputy Managing Director when the company is in dire need of buses to keep the business operational.

They suggested that the funds allocated for the new Deputy Managing Director could be better used to clear some of the company's debts.

One of the workers, speaking to Joy News in an interview, questioned the role of the new Deputy Managing Director, given that only 39 buses are available.

"The three Deputy Managing Directors that the company currently has are a source of discontent among the staff because they have put a financial strain on the company. If one of them is leaving, we think it is a relief, so that those funds can be redirected to pay off this backlog," the worker said.

He added, "If there is anything that the staff of STC currently need, it is buses, not a Deputy Managing Director. What is he coming to manage?"

The worker also accused STC of failing to pay their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions.

He claimed that pensioners do not receive their retirement packages from the company, despite being entitled to them.

"There is a lump sum that STC is supposed to give you as a retirement package. You'll retire, wait for 2 to 3 years, and still not receive those retirement packages," the worker stated.

This follows a petition to the Chairman of the Board by the staff to, among other things, stop the appointment since there already exist two Deputy Managing Directors.

The workers categorically stated that any attempt to forcefully impose the replacement of the Deputy Managing Director of Operations on them will be met with stiffer resistance.
