We need to celebrate Afari Gyan - Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development has stated that the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan need to celebrated in the country.

“I think the whole world celebrates Afari Gyan because he is a man who has proven that given the opportunity; the black man would rise up to the occasion. Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan has been a king maker since 1992 and should not be vilified by the NPP because they lost the elections this time around,” he explained.

Hon. Ofosu-Ampofo reacted to suggestions by Kofi Jumah, former MP for Asokwa that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be chased out of government, in allusion to the petition before the Highest Court of the Land.

“The NPP has no legs to stand on in the Supreme Court case...do they think the electorates who went to the polls and voted for the NDC are not sensible? So you do not have to belittle the intelligence of Ghanaians,” Ofosu-Ampofo argued.

“I belief majority of Ghanaians voted for President Mahama to make him President. With this Presidency, I have stated elsewhere that what is written is written...voting and counting is not done in the Supreme Court so we would allow the law to work,” he said.

“...I have been an organizer for eight years, I know the ins and outs of the electoral process, sat on IPAC for eight years and I tell you that NPP has no legs to stand on in this court case. They should forget about it,” he repeated.

He admonished the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to listen to firm and good counsel by leading members like Kwame Pianim, to confront defeat and re-strategise for the next general elections in 2016.

The former Local Government Minister, however told the supporters of the NDC to get on the ground and work hard since the NPP has chosen to “sit down and talk”.
