Information available indicates a mixed bag of joy and apprehension amongst young police recruits in the Ashanti Region who are fervently praying for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain power.
The young recruits call for the NPP’s retention in government to replicate the magnificent police housing project in the region.
Many young police officers, according to sources, are impressed with this beautiful gesture by the government for the police in the Greater Accra Region and are yearning to have a similar one in the Ashanti Region.
For their dream to come true, it is premised on the NPP winning the upcoming December 7 elections.
It is on the heels of this that these young recruits pray for the NPP’s victory as, to them, they fear a change in leadership will ruin their hope.
During the inauguration of the spectacular 320-unit police housing project at Tesano in Accra last week, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, praised the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the NPP, describing their investments and support to the police service as unprecedented.
The houses, located on the premises of the Police Training School, are fitted with state-of-the-art facilities and are expected to address the decade-long housing challenges which had bedeviled the service.
Some officers, speaking on the projects with their identities concealed, were hopeful the NPP’s next administration under the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will extend this helpful initiative to the Ashanti Region.
"We have seen the beautiful housing project at Tesano and we pray that a similar one can be done here in Kumasi for us to also enjoy. This government has done a lot for the police and other security agencies and we hope they can stay in power so that we can also benefit from them," the officers said.
