There is a growing disquiet among lecturers of the Department of Food Science and Technology of the University for Development Studies (UDS) after authorities gifted each of them 5kg of rice and a gallon of cooking oil as their Christmas package, MyNewsGh.com can report
With sad faces, the lecturers took turns to even sign before receiving the items they said is a mockery of their sacrifice to the premier university of the three regions of the north wondering if they do not deserve better.
The faculty has more than 300 lecturers according to drumbeatsgh.com that gauged the expressions of the lecturers after the announcement of the Christmas package which they reiterated was just too small.
“Our colleagues in different faculties, are getting better packages than this. Some people took full bags of rice and they are just giving this to us”, a lecturer who spoke on grounds of strict anonymity lamented
Meanwhile, the issue has generated a heated debate on a WhatsApp platform over plans to return the package in protest of the quantity they maintain does not befit their status as senior members of the university
But President of University Teachers Association of Ghana at the UDS, Prof. Addah said the package given to the lecturers was gotten from the 20 Ghana Cedis contributions from the lecturers themselves towards their welfare.
“What do they expect when they contribute only 20 cedis”, he asked. But as to whether it was monthly or yearly, he declined further comments.
