The Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Corporation of Ghana, William Boateng, has said his outfit is helpless in the current energy crisis.
According to him, GRIDCO is not transmitting enough power adding that ECG can only manage the amount it receives.
Speaking on the Morning Starr with host Kafui Dey on Starr 103.5FM Boateng explained that it is difficult to provide consumers with a schedule on the power outages due to the nature of the crisis.
“We cannot tell when the power would be off, when we are giving information it should be complete information...we are not in control when we are in such crisis because of the way the system works.
“If you give me 400 megawatts that I should shed load and design a plan, then I design a plan and I inform you that you would go off 12 hours and you would have power 12 hours but we are talking about a crisis moment where we don’t know what has happened in the generation end”.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Protection Agency has strongly criticized the Public Utility Regulatory Commission for doing little on the worsening power crisis.
Consumers of electricity have had erratic power supply for some weeks now without proper notification. Some frustrated power consumers are now attacking staff of the ECG and vandalizing their properties.
According to the the Consumer protection group, the PURC is now in bed with the utility companies hence their failure to sanction utility providers in the current energy crisis.
Nana Prempeh Agyemang, head of programs and research at the Consumer Protection agency told Starr News that is doing nothing to improve the services from the utility provider.
