We’re pleased with the issues captured in the manifestos of NDC and NPP - PWDs

Former President of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities, Prince Debrah, has commended the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition party for the policies outlined in their manifestos for PWDs.

Both the NDC and NPP have pledged to roll out free tertiary education for PWDs.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to provide free tertiary education to persons with disabilities if they win the December 7 general election.

This policy is part of the NDC’s manifesto, which aims to improve access to and the quality of education in Ghana.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the presidential candidate for the NPP, announced plans to introduce free tertiary education scholarships for persons with disabilities (PWDs) if the party is elected.

Speaking during the launch of the NPP’s manifesto on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia said that this initiative aims to remove financial barriers that hinder PWDs from achieving their educational goals.

“The next NPP government will introduce free tertiary education scholarships for PWDs to remove financial barriers to pursuing educational goals."

Reacting to this on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Debrah indicated that, from examining the two manifestos, he can state categorically that the two manifestos have identified some challenges confronting PWDs, and that is positive.

"The two parties have all identified and recognised our challenges in the manifestos. There is freedom of association, and so we have PWDs who would be NPP or NDC, but the objective is for us to pursue agendas to ensure that challenges confronting PWDs will be addressed. When you go to Ghana Gas and GNPC, they run an initiative that allows PWDs to apply for scholarships, and that is a good thing. The other party also rolled out initiatives when they were in office, and we appreciate that.

The two manifestos by the two parties in 2024 are good and have captured issues affecting us. The free tertiary policy is good. There are other good things they may have done that may not have been captured in the manifestos," he added.

He called on the two parties to remain committed to these policies outlined in their manifestos if they can win the elections.
