The Greater Accra Police Command has expressed its preparedness to ensure tight security at the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto launch today Sunday, October 9, at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
According to the Command, it has mapped out a security strategy that will ensure the event goes on peacefully and turns out successfully.
Speaking to Kasapa News, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tengey stated that police personnel detailed to the event have been adequately briefed and trained to man the various logistics that will be deployed at the event, while the MTTD unit also ensures that there is flow of traffic in the area.
She warned unscrupulous persons who have intentions of taking advantage of the large crowd to engage in criminal acts to desist from such tendency as they will be dealt with ruthlessly when arrested.
The NPP manifesto launch is expected to draw thousands of supporters from across the country to the outdooring of the party’s much anticipated document with which the NPP will run the country should the party be voted into power during the December 7 elections.
The event which was originally scheduled to be held in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, (Stadium) was moved to Accra following what organizers say would have posed problems for smooth arrangement of the venue, after the Senior National Team, Black Stars played a world cup qualifier at the same venue on Friday.
Even before the document is launched, the NPP has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) of stealing ideas from the manifesto, a charge that both parties have strongly rejected.
Party sources say, the manifesto will place emphasis on job creation and creating an enabling business environment for economic growth.
