The Staff Unions of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) have apologised and withdrawn allegations they levelled against the Board Chair of the Authority, Peter Mac Manu.

The staff in a statement signed by Henry Papa Oppong and Maxwell Cudjoe, apologized for the 'embarrassment and inconvenience' they have caused to Mr Manu and his family.

‘As a Union and social partner with a common objective of working together with management towards achieving the objectives of GPHA, we had some serious concerns about the happenings in GPHA which we were not happy about,’ ‘After the press conference, it has come to our notice that we did not engage management as we should have done before holding the press conference,’ the statement said.

Mr Manu was last month accused by the staff of engaging in alleged corrupt deals. Mr Manu was also accused of breaching procurement processes for his personal benefit, so they impressed on the president to dismiss him.

However, the GPHA Board Chair described the allegations as lies. He later demanded for an apology and retraction from the staff through his lawyers. Chairman of the Senior Staff Union of the Authority, Joseph Aseeph, who addressed the press today [Friday] apologised to Mr Manu and his family.

‘Some facts have come to our notice which on hindsight, we should not have brought into the public domain against Mr Mac Manu and his family at our press conference,’ the union said.
