We’ve blown our opportunity with the oil find – MP laments

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, has hailed Professor Kwesi Botchwey, former Minister of Finance’s diagnosis of the country’s economic woes at his public lecture at the Central University College (CUC).

Taking his turn at the Distinguished Speakers Series held in Accra, Professor Kwesi Botchwey advised that as part of measures to build a strong national economy, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP) should step up its game with more competent hands in order to enhance the progress of the economy.

He also reinforced the economic ideas espoused by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to accelerate the development of the country.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM's morning show host, Kwami Sefa Kayi, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu expressed worry over how the current administration has misused every opportunity to develop the country.

Revealing some lapses of Mahama-led government, the former Deputy Finance Minister stated that over 4 billion dollars was blown away by the incumbent government in just four months in the year 2012.

He expounded that the government bloated its expenditures and on three consecutive times, overspent revenues.

He therefore supported remarks by Dr. Botchwey, stating emphatically that “It appears that frustration is setting in on those who know better; those who know that if they don’t address the problems, it will get out of control. We have overspent…We have just blown our opportunity with oil and all that. It’s sad.

“What did they use the money for?” he quizzed.
