President Akufo-Addo believes the chieftaincy institution has an important role to play in the development of the country and its people.

He said the institution and its members are ‘crucial partners’ in government’s quest to pursue and accelerate development in the country.

The President said that both the elected leaders of the country and traditional rulers have a common goal in seeking the welfare of the people to bring development to the nation.

The President made this known when members of the Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs called on him at the Jubilee House on Tuesday to brief him about their activities so far.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s commitment to continue to partner the chiefs to realize national objectives, insisting that chieftaincy, as an institution, has a great deal to offer even in these contemporary times.

That, he said, was the reason the framers of the Second Republican Constitution guaranteed its independence.

President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, on his part, said as a constitutionally recognized body, it was under the obligation to help the government achieve its aims and objectives, chief among them being to unite the people, maintain peace and support government’s developmental agenda.

He said so far the House had established an Endowment Fund to pool resources together to intervene in matters, when the need arises, and also commenced the digitization of all cases before them.
