Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has served notice that ministers who see themselves bigger than the party will be cut to size soon.
According to him, ministers who have ‘grown wings’ and as a result think they can flout party rules or not align themselves with party positions will be heavily censured.
The NDC has lashed out at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for trying to impose their programme (Presidential debate) on the various political parties when it has not consulted them.
National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams believes the utterances and conduct of the IEA leaves much to be desired, noting that it is about time the institute takes political parties serious and consult them at all times whenever it initiates any program for them.
Adams commenting further likened the posture of the think-tank institution to that of a headmaster of a school that sees the student body to be at his beck and call and therefore could summon them at any given time.
“The IEA is not a headmaster that will ring the bell for the people to assemble at the assembly meeting grounds anytime he so wants. If they think that they can continue behaving like a headmaster, then they will have a difficulty assembling the people”.
“Even in today’s system, headmasters don’t just assemble people like that. They engage the SRCs of the various campuses argue with them and then agree to a certain level even before they communicate to the larger student population.”
But the Executive Director of the IEA Mrs Jean Mensah has indicated that Mr Adams is not fully abreast with discussions that have taken place with some persons in government over the upcoming debate which the NDC has stated that President Mahama will not be part of.
“If Jean Mensah insists she spoke to a minister, I’m telling her loud and clear that, that minister is not part of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party. So if they had their discussion somewhere and drunk some chocolate drink or Ice cream, she should not tell us that Kofi Adams is ignorant about his position on the Presidential debate.
“Kofi Adams is part of NEC and FEC; he’s a senior member of the party so any day Kofi Adams speaks on behalf of the NDC. We’re going to instill party discipline, those ministers who think they are bigger than the party…their time is coming,” Mr Anyidoho fumed.
