We will not be pushed into opening University of Ghana Hospital – Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health has clearly indicated that it would not be pushed into opening the Unniversity of the Ghana Medical Center.

The Center has remained closed despite its commissioning over a year ago.

The Hospital which is one of a kind in the sub-region was constructed during the tenure of the erstwhile John Mahama administration but has remained close because according to the Kwaku Agyemang Manu led Health Ministry, some finishing touches need to be applied.

This is the latest in a series of excuses that have been given by the Ministry for the delay in the opening of the Hospital.

The ministry’s initial claim that the hospital has no standby generator was found to be untrue but the Ministry insists that it requires 5 million dollars for the running of the Hopsital.

The persistent closure of the Hospital has given rise to a social media campaign to force the hands of government.

Even though the #OpenUGMC campaign has garnered over a thousand signatures, Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry Robert Cudjoe says the Ministry would open the Hospital when it wants to.

He spoke to Peter Bamfo on the Gold Power Drive on Wednesday.
