We will not grow strong if we don't call out her incompetence - Martin Kpebu to Jean Mensa

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) for describing her as incompetent and unqualified for the position.

According to him, he had reservations about her capabilities the moment she was nominated for the role.

"From day one, I said that at the time Jean Mensa was coming, she hadn't made a mark at the bar to say this is a stalwart. So, I knew there was going to be a lot of incompetence. This is a democracy; we will not grow strong if we do not call out incompetence. From the time she was being nominated, I said it because I had done checks from people who knew her and this woman had not made her mark at the bar.

"She wasn't a stalwart at the bar. She did not have that confidence. When it comes to the bar, we have people who have made their mark. Jean Mensa hadn't made that mark. I checked; that is what is following us," he stated on Key Points on TV3 monitored by GhanaWeb on Saturday, September 22, 2024.

Touching on the disqualification of some 11 presidential aspirants by the Electoral Commission, he pointed out that one of the aspirants, Samuel Apea-Danquah, presented all the relevant details yet he was disqualified.

"That is the way to go. I have seen other presidential aspirants lacing their boots to write to the EC. Samuel Appea Danquah is doing a draft. I have seen it. I am a bit involved. Some of the errors the EC identified are palpably false.

"Clearly, Appea Danquah presented information about his vice presidential candidate and his tax clearance certificate. Just rectify it and allow him. Some presidential aspirants are lacing their boots to go to court," he noted.

The Electoral Commission on Friday, September 20, 2024, disqualified Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP) from contesting the December 7, 2024, presidential elections in a communiqué issued by the EC.

Other presidential candidates disqualified by the EC include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Dr. Nii Amu Darko.

The rest are Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
