We will respond to your ‘misguided’ orders to the police – NDC to Akufo-Addo

National Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) say they have had enough of what they describe as harassment from the Akufo-Addo government.

Addressing a press conference in Accra Tuesday, Communications Director of the party, Kakra Essamuah said henceforth members of the party will not allow themselves to be treated in the manner some police officers have treated them in recent times.

“On our own part, we wish to tell President Akufo-Addo that enough is enough. While remaining law-abiding, we will not sit like ducks on top of water to be picked up one after the other by a handful of rogue elements within the Police acting on misguided orders from the Presidency,” he warned.

The comment comes on the back of the Rambo-style arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi by CID operatives on Monday after he had taken part in a TV discussion.

The police, in a statement, said they had secured an arrest warrant for Mr Gyamfi to interrogate him in connection with possession of forged documents and publication of fake news with the intent of causing fear and panic.

He was subsequently granted bail to two (2) sureties to be reporting every Monday to the CID headquarters at 2 pm.

The police in December invited Mr Gyamfi to respond to allegations of cybercrime leveled against him, but he declined the invitation and later through his lawyers sued to stop the police from examining his phone records and gaining access to his Facebook account.
